Like his brother Martin, Peter is also an authentic cycling globetrotter, spending most of the year far from Slovakia riding and training, or just on relaxing holidays like the ones the twins usually spend in California at the end of each season. In 2012 Peter conquered the Tour of Oman and followed up that win with a victory in the national championship TT. After a roller-coaster Tour de France, Peter was part of the squad that captured the World Championship TTT in Valkenburg. Always available and interested in change, next year Peter is aiming to improve in the major stage races as well as one-day events.

Peter's news

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Peter Velits kept himself protected as the peloton dwindled to a select group after the final climb, the Cote de la Sizeranne, at km 191 out of 199.5km of Paris-Nice Stage 4 on Thursday.

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team worked hard to protect Sylvain Chavanel and Peter Velits — both in the GC top 10 going into the stage — in a 195km flat stage on Monday. Despite some exposed areas where wind animated the race, and some crashes caused by nervousness in the bunch, OPQS was able to keep most of its riders in the front group and go for a top result.

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team rider Sylvain Chavanel put all his effort into a possible victory at the 2.9km Paris-Nice prologue on Sunday. Chavanel earned a 2nd place finish, just one second shy of the win, with the hard work evident by his face in the final meters.
