Like his brother Martin, Peter is also an authentic cycling globetrotter, spending most of the year far from Slovakia riding and training, or just on relaxing holidays like the ones the twins usually spend in California at the end of each season. In 2012 Peter conquered the Tour of Oman and followed up that win with a victory in the national championship TT. After a roller-coaster Tour de France, Peter was part of the squad that captured the World Championship TTT in Valkenburg. Always available and interested in change, next year Peter is aiming to improve in the major stage races as well as one-day events.

In the 157km Stage 1 of Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco, A two rider break was dwindled to one as the riders approached the sixth and final climb of the day: Category 2 Alto de San Miguel. Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team was near the front, ready to put their GC leaders Tony Martin and Peter Velits into good position for a good result.

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team has announced the selection that will take part in 837km Vuelta Ciclista al Pais Vasco, taking place from April 1st until April 6th. The six-stage, 837km UCI WorldTour race ends with an important 24km time trial in Beasain, which includes some tough climbing sections of 7.33%, 6.92%, and 12.14% gradients.

Omega Pharma - Quick-Step Cycling Team riders Sylvain Chavanel and Peter Velits did their best to protect their GC standings on a crucial turning point, on the Stage 5 summit fiinish on Category 1 La Montagne de Lure on Friday.
